Cheap Sydney Accommodation Darling Harbour

'Cheap Sydney accommodation darling harbour' sounds like a personals ad, but it actually exists - if not right at Darling Harbour, at least within an easy walk. The obvious way to stay in Sydney long enough to see this tourism and entertainment centre, and not spend very much money is to stay at a hostel. Fortunately there are many of these informal and affordable answers to cheap travel near the center of this exciting city.

Hostels in the original sense meant safe places to stay where backpackers could find at least a running water spigot and a place to unroll a sleeping bag. Today, however, hostels usually offer many more amenities, and sometimes only the informal atmosphere will let a traveler know that it is not a hotel.

Among the best known downtown hostels is 'Wake Up! Sydney Central', a swinger's paradise with a cafe, an internationally known night spot named the SideBar, dormitories and even private rooms, game rooms, parking lots, 24 hour staff, and more. This hostel is very close to Darling Harbour, rents bed starting at $28 a night (US), and is mainly designed to delight teens and wild, restless young adults. Other similar, centrally located, and slightly cheaper hostels are the Maze Backpackers and Base Sydney.

If you like the hostel aspect but want less noisy nightlife going on all around, the Haven Inn has beds at great prices, a restaurant, and a bar. The rooms are said to be comfortable, but the large, private bathrooms get rave reviews. This small hotel is in a rather bohemian neighborhood, making the short walk to the Harbour interesting and entertaining.

If you are traveling with children, or are neither very young or very wild, you might prefer the Woolbrokers at Darling Harbour, which is either an informal hotel or a sedate hostel. For under $50 a night, travelers can have a comfortable night in clean rooms with shared facilities. The sharing should not be a problem, however, since the ratio is 27 beds to 19 bathrooms. This traditionally styled family hotel has specials and group rates worth investigating.

Most of the hotels in Sydney start with prices at around $150 to $200 a night, with loud claims to have discounts and cheap rates that are not detailed on their websites. For those who are really heading for Sydney, it would probably be worthwhile calling to see what these specials and discounts amount to.

There is so much to see and do in Darling Harbour, visitors will probably spend very little time in their overnight beds anyway. The Harbourside shops, the promenades and parks and fountains, the carnival rides, the Pyrmont Bridge, and the museums and harbour cruises will fill up the days. At night, visitors have the beautiful view of the city skyline, the casino, the huge IMAX cinema, the clubs, and the moon over the water to keep them out late.

No matter where you stay in Sydney, it is easy to get to Darling Harbour. If it is too far to walk, take a bus, a taxi, a water taxi, the light rail, or the monorail, all headed to this entertainment hub. There is enough to see and do to make a week too short, so finding 'Cheap Sydney accommodation darling harbour' might enable everyone to stay a little longer.
