Oprah's Ultimate Australian Adventure
Popular daytime chat show host Oprah Winfrey is coming to Australia along with 300 of her US viewers. During the start to her new series on Monday the talk-show queen announced that in December 2010 she will film at least two episodes of her show at the Sydney Opera House when this iconic Australian landmarked will be recognised as the Sydney "Oprah" House.
Her American audience went from screams of excitement to tears of joy and hugs as Oprah said "Maybe I should take you all with me to the other side of the world. We're going to Australia,"
"We'll sail Sydney Harbour, some will sample Shiraz in Aussie wine country and others will shop 'til they drop in trendy Melbourne," Winfrey told the delirious audience.
"We'll get up close with kangaroos and koalas, kick back on some of the world's most beautiful beaches and experience one of the Seven Wonders of the World - the Great Barrier Reef.
"Then we'll all meet at the spectacular Sydney Opera House, where thousands of our Aussie ultimate viewers will join us for an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime Oprah Show experience."
As she announced the surprise to her stunned audience the front of a Qantas passenger plan appeared from behind with John Travolta appearing. Travolta is expected to be is Australia for the airlines 90th birthday in November but with his 3rd child due in December he is unlikely to be accompanying Oprah on her tour of Australia.
Oprah Winfrey and her guests will enjoy an eight-day, seven-night trip that has been dubbed “Oprah's Ultimate Australian Adventure”. Oprah’s production team will visit Australia prior to her arrival to plan her schedule and where she will be appearing.
The trip is estimated to have cost the Australian public around $3,000,000 which has in part been financed by Tourism Australia, the NSW and Victorian Governments. All agreed it was money spent and would provide an ‘unquantifiable’ boast to Australian Tourism across the world. Former federal tourism minister John Brown said "We spent hundreds of millions of dollars over 30 years without much effect. The publicity that Oprah will bring to Australia around the world is something you couldn't buy."
The Oprah show has a weekly audience of 40 million American viewers and is screened in 145 countries which is likely to put Australia in the thoughts of many hundreds of millions of potential visitors.
Tickets for the filming of the Australian shows will be in hot demand with Oprah Winfrey have a large number of loyal and eager fans within Australia that will be eagerly awaiting the opportunity to get tickets. At this stage it is understood tickets will be available via the Channel 10 website in October and will be made available via a lottery system.
